Cookie Policy

Last updated: 16 August 2026

This policy lists every cookie and browser storage key CVBeat uses, what each one does, and how long it lasts. Nothing non-essential is set until you consent.

1. What are cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website asks your browser to store. They are sent back to the site on future visits, which allows the site to remember things such as whether you are signed in or which preferences you have chosen.

CVBeat also uses two related browser storage technologies. localStorage keeps a small amount of data in your browser until it is explicitly cleared — we use it only to remember your cookie choice. sessionStorage keeps data only while the browser tab is open and wipes it the moment you close the tab — we use it to carry your CV text between the ATS scan and the CV builder so you do not have to upload it twice. Neither is transmitted to our servers.

2. Our legal basis for cookies

  • Necessary cookies — no consent required. These are strictly needed to deliver the service you have requested, for example keeping the admin dashboard secure and recording your cookie choice.
  • Non-essential cookies and storage — consent required under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). We obtain this through the cookie banner before any analytics or functional storage is written.

3. Cookies and storage we use

If you decline functional storage, CVBeat still works — you will simply need to re-enter your CV when moving between tools, because nothing is retained between steps.

4. How to manage your cookies

CVBeat cookie banner

The banner appears on your first visit. You can reopen it at any time using the link in the footer of every page, or the button at the top of this page. Changing your choice takes effect immediately, and declining functional storage also clears anything already stored.

Browser settings

Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies. Search for "cookies" in your browser settings, or follow the vendor guidance:

  • Chrome: support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647
  • Firefox: support.mozilla.org/kb/enhanced-tracking-protection-firefox-desktop
  • Safari: support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/safari/sfri11471
  • Edge: support.microsoft.com/microsoft-edge — search "cookies"
  • Mobile: on iOS use Settings → Safari → Privacy; on Android use Chrome → Settings → Site settings → Cookies

Blocking all cookies at browser level may prevent us from recording your consent choice, which means the banner will reappear on each visit.

Google Analytics opt-out

Google provides a browser add-on that blocks Google Analytics across every website you visit: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

Vercel Analytics opt-out

Vercel Analytics respects the Do Not Track browser signal. Enabling Do Not Track in your browser will prevent collection independently of your CVBeat choice.

5. Third-party cookies

We do not allow third-party advertisers to set cookies on CVBeat, and we run no ad networks, no retargeting pixels and no social media trackers.

The only third-party cookies that can be set are Vercel Analytics and Google Analytics, and both require your explicit consent first.

6. Changes to this policy

We will update this page whenever the cookies or storage we use change, and we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. If we introduce a new cookie category, the consent banner will reappear so you can make a fresh choice.
